Curriculum

The purpose of our school is to encourage creativity, positive self-esteem and an enthusiasm for learning. We seek to provide an education and an environment in which each child can grow. We believe that a child will thrive if placed in a setting that is loving, caring, cheerful, challenging, ordered and which reinforces positive values. Children learn self-control and respect for one another through cooperation and sharing. Good manners are reinforced throughout the program day.

Our curriculum includes language arts, science, math, community, art, music, and physical education. A multitude of intentional learning experiences are available each day through activities such as painting, use of play dough, singing, storytelling, finger plays, science experiments, water and sand play, puzzles, dramatics, puppetry, nature walks and outdoor games. A “Thematic Unit”, usually derived from the children’s interests, brings continuity to the range of activities. Books are used extensively and an emphasis on language and reading is reinforced across the curriculum.

Social emotional growth is built into our daily programming. Developing decision making skills, leadership, independence, responsibility, resilience, empathy and kindness is significant to our philosophy. We look to create wonder in everything we do. We encourage children to think on their own rather than telling them what to think.

We hope you will want to participate in your child’s school experience and that you feel welcomed here. Your input regarding our programs is important, and we want to establish open communication right from the start. We have a Parent Advisory Committee that meets throughout the year to gather feedback and help with school needs. The staff and families work as a team for the best possible learning environment.
